Grayling trails
Went up to Grayling with the wife on Saturday, 3/3 to do some riding. Stayed at Fay's, great place to stay. She said that their trails have been groomed but the Grayling to Lovells trail had only been groomed once all week. The DNR does that trail. We headed out and thought, how bad can they be, it should have less traffic than going to the west side? Well I was wrong, deep moguls, pretty much junk trails. If the Michigan DNR wants to charge us $25.00 for a permit they should at least get off the butts and groom. The local clubs in the area did a great job. My hat goes off to them. Sunday morning was great, 120 miles and back at the truck by 10:45am. The DNR is a different story, this is not the only area in the state that they are still supposedly grooming. If they aren't going to maintain their sections of the trails, give the local clubs the groomers and money to do the job. I would have loved to ride in the Lovells, Lewiston and Mio area this weekend but I did not see any reason to beat my brains in on those trails. The biggest loser is the local businness's in that area who are losing out on the much needed income after such a weak season. I think the DNR should stick to the politics of trail easements and fund allocation and leave the grooming to the people who want to help the snowmobiling tourist industry in the state.
